Compare the look you want
Pavers offer a broad range of sizes, colours, patterns and borders. Poured concrete can create a simpler continuous surface, with finish options that depend on the contractor and site conditions.
Bring photos of patios you like, then look at them beside your house materials. The best match is the one that connects the house, garden and intended furniture.
Consider access and ground preparation
Neither surface makes poor preparation disappear. Excavation, stable base conditions, grades and water movement should be addressed before choosing a finish. Access can affect how materials and equipment reach the work area.
Ask each bidder to describe the preparation, drainage approach and edges. A comparison based only on surface material misses much of the project.
Think about repairs and upkeep
Individual pavers may be lifted and replaced when access to a buried service is needed, although a repair can still require careful reinstallation. Concrete repairs can be more visible across a continuous slab. Both surfaces need routine cleaning.
Settlement, staining and weeds can affect the finished look in different ways. Ask how the proposed system handles joints, edges and future access.
Choose with the whole yard in mind
Steps, retaining edges, planting beds and lawn elevations can make one solution easier to integrate. Decide where people will walk and how water will leave the patio before selecting a material.
